Ume Federal Credit Union | About Us

UMe frequently asked questions:

It’s about You + Me
We are pleased to tell you about an exciting change. After much consideration and development, we've changed our name from Burbank Community Federal Credit Union to UMe Credit Union!

Our new name is our chance to show the world what matters to us most. You, our members, are what our credit union is all about - and our relationship with you is what we value above all else. UMe is a name that is modern, simple, direct and most importantly emphasizes our commitment to you. We feel that through our long history together we have learned that there is no limit to what we can accomplish. UMe reflects that point of view.

Of course you probably have some questions, so let’s see if we can answer them here:

Why a name change?
The old name worked well for a long time and was functional; but, we wanted to better communicate who we really are - and, most importantly, what we’re all about. And, our new name does that perfectly, as it is a true representation of what matters to us most: our members, and the relationship we have together.

Our new name is shorter, more direct and a heck of a lot easier to say. Plus, it’s unique, just like us, and sets us apart from the crowd. Sure, it’s an atypical word - but, we’re an atypical financial institution - and that’s something we’re really proud of!

What’s the new name? (And, how do you say it?)
UMe Credit Union! UMe is pronounced: You-Me (The emphasis is on "You” - because “You” are what matters to us most.)
You + Me = UMe

Why UMe?
Because, UMe represents the relationship that makes our credit union special: the connection between
“our members” and “us” ... the connection between “you” and “me” ... that’s UMe ... we’re UMe!

Was there a merger, a takeover, or some other financial issue?
No. We are 71 years strong and growing. In the last couple of years there have been many changes in the banking world (and not always for good)... but, we’re the same credit union that we’ve always been, only better. Our new name is true to who we are. It reinforces our partnership with our membership and helps us better communicate what we’re really about - both of which make us poised for long-term growth and even stronger years to come.

Has the credit union’s focus on the Burbank community changed?
No. We’re still (and always will be) Burbank’s credit union. We were started by a group of Burbank teachers back in 1940 - and after serving Burbank Unified School District employees, exclusively, for 64 years, we became a community credit union, expanding our service to the entire community of Burbank. We’re not only focused on the community, we are part of the community.

What will change?
Everything and nothing. You will start seeing our new name and identity in the credit union and on all of our communications in the near future. Your credit union accounts and account numbers will remain the same, as will our products and services - no changes there. And, we will continue striving to provide you with an outstanding banking experience.

Will my account number change?
No. All credit union account numbers will remain the same.

Will my debit, credit, or ATM card change?
No. Your current debit, credit or ATM card will continue to work, as usual. When your current card expires, your replacement card will feature the UMe name and logo.

Will my checks be accepted and continue to work?
Yes. Checks clear your account using the routing number (which will remain the same) that is located on the bottom of your checks. Checks featuring the old name will continue to be accepted and clear just fine. When you order new checks, they will feature the UMe name and logo on them.

Will the credit union’s website change?
Yes and no. The credit union web address (URL) will change to umecreditunion.com - and will feature visual changes that reflect the look and feel of our new brand. However, the website content will remain the same - as always, a great source for current rates, news and information, specials on products and services, and banking resources.

Will online banking change?
Yes and no. You will still be able to login to online banking, from the home page of the credit union’s website, using your existing login and password - no changes there. However, if you have bookmarked the actual online banking page, this web address (URL) will be changing to support the name change. So, if you enjoy bookmarking, you will need to update the bookmark for the online banking login. Everything else will remain the same, though.

Will mobile banking change?
Yes and no. The mobile banking web address (URL) will change to umecreditunion.com/m - and will feature visual changes that reflect the look and feel of our new brand. However, the mobile banking content and account access will remain the same, as will your login and password.

Will my direct deposit need to be changed or updated?
No. Direct deposits are sent to the credit union using the credit union’s routing number (which will remain the same) and your account number (which will remain the same) - so, there’s nothing to change or update.

Will my products or services change?
No. Everything you have come to enjoy and rely on from the credit union will remain the same.

Will anything change on my loan?
No. Nothing will change regarding your loan(s).

Will my statement change?
Yes. The account statements have been redesigned to feature visual changes that reflect the look and feel of our new UMe brand and to improve readability.

Have qualifications for joining the credit union changed?
No. We’re still Burbank’s credit union, and we will continue to offer our products and services to anyone who lives, works, goes to school, worships, volunteers, or belongs to an association in the city of Burbank.

Has any of the management, employees, or board members changed?
No. We are the same great staff and volunteers striving to provide you with an outstanding banking experience.

Will the deposit insurance be affected?
No. Your deposits will continue to be federally insured and backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government. The National Credit Union Association (NCUA) insures your individual savings accounts, up to at least $250K regardless of the number of accounts you may have. (Retirement accounts are also separately insured by the NCUA for up to $250K.)

For details about the federal coverage on your accounts, or how you can possibly structure your accounts to qualify for additional NCUA coverage, please use The Electronic Share Insurance Calculator on the NCUA website

But I liked the old name...
Okay, so this really isn’t a question. But, we realize there will be some people who may not be fans of the new name, especially at first. And, we want to address that. Let’s face it: a new name sounds odd the first time you hear it - especially when it’s a made up word. Imagine what people must have thought when they heard “Google” for the first time? (“Google? Seriously? What kind of name is Google? That’s not even a real word!”) Yet, the Google name has been embraced, it’s one of the most well-known business names in the world... even transcending the name category to become an equally popular verb. (People “Google” things all the time.) We are really confident that if you don’t like the new name now, you will quickly get used to it; and the more you hear UMe and understand the meaning behind it, you will actually learn to love it - just like we do. So, if you're unhappy with our new name, please consider what it stands for: You + Me
