Shopping Tips for the 2023 Holiday Season

The hap-hap-happiest time of the year is here and that means catchy carols, shopping for U and yours, candy canes, and fuzzy sweaters! At UMe, we love all these things — and as a wise elf once said, “The best way to spread holiday cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” While we might not be able to personally serenade each and every one of you, we can provide some holiday spending advice that can help you save money while shopping. (Saving U money is our favorite!)

Read on to help keep these money-saving shopping tips at top-of-mind:

  • Many retailers offer immediate discounts when you sign up for e-mail newsletters, download their mobile app, or join their rewards program.
  • Use online comparison sites like Honey, Rakuten, and Google Shopping to make sure you buy your items at the best possible price.
  • Be on the lookout for early sales from certain retailers. Amazon and Target have already begun their Black Friday holiday sales!
  • Get an early start on your holiday shopping. When inventory in those retail shops gets low, it can mean fewer options to choose from and higher prices the closer it gets to the peak of the holiday season. If you start your shopping early, you can save money (and avoid stress) during the season of giving.
  • Have a game plan for flexibility in gifting. Many popular items may be unavailable, delayed, or overpriced — so having alternative gift ideas in mind is key. (When in doubt, go for the gift card!)

Now you have some holiday spending tips from your favorite credit union! We hope these come in handy — and we hope U enjoy this time of year as much as we enjoyed including Elf references in this article. As always, if you have any questions, we are here to help — come in to our branch, shoot us an email, or give us a call today and our team of UMe Elves* will be happy to help!

*During the holidays, our Call Center may answer your phone call by saying: “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?” We’re totally kidding, but we felt the need to add one more Elf quote in here. We love that movie.
