Fraud Alert: Scammers Spoofing UMe’s Phone Number

We want to alert our members to an active fraud attempt targeting financial institutions nationwide — including attempted calls to some UMe members.

In recent cases, scammers spoofed UMe’s phone number so it appeared the call was coming directly from us. The caller ID displayed “UMe” and even showed our phone number: 818-238-2900.

The callers claimed they were verifying large transactions at a Walmart in Texas. When members denied the transactions, the caller attempted to collect account information.

We’re proud to share that the members who received these calls recognized the red flags, refused to provide information, hung up, and contacted us directly.

Please read this carefully:

If the caller ID says “UMe” — even if it shows our real phone number, 818-238-2900 — it may still be a scam.

Caller ID can be faked.

If someone calling you asks for your password, PIN, MFA code, full account number, or card information, that is not UMe.

We would never ask for that information over the phone.

What UMe Will Never Ask For

UMe will never call you and ask for:

  • Your online banking password
  • Your PIN
  • Your MFA or one-time passcodesYour full account number
  • Photos of your debit or credit card

If anyone asks for this information, hang up immediately.

What To Do If You Receive a Suspicious Call

  1. Hang up immediately.

  2. Wait a few moments.

  3. Call us directly at 818-238-2900.

Dial the number yourself. Do not call back using your recent calls list.
