Happy 80th Anniversary to U + Me!
Three fun ways we’re celebrating all month long
June 2020 marks our 80th anniversary as a credit union! Ohmigod really, it’s a milestone we share with U, our 15,632 totally awesome members (can you tell we’re celebrating with a 1980s theme?).
Despite our 80 years, we have all the energy and enthusiasm of a brand-new credit union. That’s all thanks to U. After all, you’re the reason we made it our mission to provide way better financial services to the Burbank community, like, so many decades ago. And now, in our 80th year, U continue to motivate and inspire us.
We are really grateful for U, and we hope you feel the UMe love. Here are three things we’re celebrating this month, including a way we can celebrate together!
1. U helped Me (us) build something very special
Our members have always believed in us, even from our humble beginnings. Back in 1940, a group of Burbank teachers chartered our credit union for a small, but dedicated membership. We were a Burbank Unified School District credit union for several years… serving teachers, employees of the district, and eventually students. Then, in 2004, we expanded our charter to include the entire community of Burbank!
Thanks to your support, we’ve grown exponentially throughout the better part of a century! And now we’re able to provide top-notch and affordable products and services for a much bigger audience.
2. U show up to support each other
Your community support gives us all the feels. Whether it’s participating in the annual Thank-A-Soldier Care Box event in our parking lot, or donating to one of our food drives for the BTAC, or toy drives for the Burbank Coordinating Council’s Holiday Basket program, we’re always impressed by your commitment to help those in need year after year. Truly, you’re like family—a big, beautiful family of 15,632.
3. U matter to Me (all of us at UMe)
We had big plans for a big 80th birthday bash in our parking lot this year – with loads of free giveaways (including lunch), ferris wheel rides, and live entertainment. 🎡 But, we’ve had to pivot our plans in the wake of this pandemic. We’re really bummed that we can’t celebrate with you in person, so we’ve figured out a way to celebrate with you another way…
We’re taking our 80th birthday party to Facebook – and U are, fer sure, totally invited! 🎉 Join us every Friday in June, from 12:30 to 1:30pm for our 80’s inspired “I want my UMe TV” Facebook Watch Party! We’ll be showing the best 80’s music videos we can find, along with live chat, and giveaways like UMe swag and $80 (in honor of our 80th year)! Like, seriously, you won’t want to miss this!
